Treatment Formats

Pre-pandemic, when I saw patients face to face, like every other psychotherapist I saw patients in “50 minute hours”, once or occasionally twice a week, every week. This is still available, and is the best option for many people, but there are other possibilities.

If you want a higher level of support during a course of treatment, there is the “one long, one short” option. This is a weekly 50 minute session with a 15 minute phone call in between sessions.

If your concern is very specific, there is also single-session.

The alternatives are described below.

One Long, One Short

This is one 50-minute session a week, with a 15-minute telephone check-in between sessions. The 50 minute session is at the same time each week, while the 15 minute session can be booked at short notice. You can use it to check in generally, to prepare for a difficult moment or talk about a distressing experience.

Single Session Therapy

The assumption here is that we meet as if the first session will be the last and aim to complete our work by the end of  that session, although additional sessions are available if needed. This format can be appropriate when certain conditions are met;

  • You know what you need to do;
  • You have a compelling reason for doing it;
  • You are willing to accept the discomfort and fear involved in doing it.

This tends to work best in circumstances like;

  • Having a difficult conversation;
  • Deciding whether to continue in a relationship or break it off;
  • Deciding whether to leave a job or remain;
  • Sharing a secret (think of it like a secular confession).

The session lasts for 100 minutes.

Fees

For the standard 50 minute hour: £100.

For the one long, one short: £125.

For the single session: £250.

All of these can be booked and confirmed online here.
