If you have reached this point, congratulations!
You may be feeling a little nervous, particularly if you haven’t experienced psychotherapy before. That’s natural.
As well as the unfamiliarity, there’s another thing that may be making you uncomfortable. All of us are made up of different parts, which want different things. Part of us wants to move forward with our life, while another part wants to keep us exactly where we are, no matter how miserable. Thinking about starting therapy can bring the conflict between these two parts out into the open.
To help you listen to the positive part, let me give you an idea of what happens in a first appointment. I do everything I can to keep it low-key and unthreatening. It is not so much a first session as an opportunity to discuss and decide whether you want to start a course of treatment. We talk about you, where you are and what you want to achieve. I try to give you some idea of what might be involved and how long it might take, and you have the chance to decide if you would feel comfortable with me as your therapist. After that, you can decide.
You can see available appointments on the calendar below, and book and confirm them immediately.
Note: these times are ones I keep always available for initial assessments. If we decide to start a course of treatment, we agree on a regular time different from any you will see here.
